Spiders and Seafood

I don't like spiders

Ship aflame

Nuno

Fried Tofu in a Blue Crab Sauce at Tenoshima

Lynn came over and joined us for breakfast. She is a famous connoisseur of Avocado Toast and has eaten at every known restaurant in San Francisco that serves the Gen Z favorite. We all ordered it for breakfast and she approved of it.

We went to the Mori Art Museum that sits on the 52 floor of the Mori building. On our first visit to Tokyo years ago we saw a giant sculpture of a Spider, you could actually walk under it it was so huge. Then I saw a similar Spider at LACMA. Since my childhood I have had an intense dislike of spiders. Cathy and I differ on this subject. Cathy keeps reminding me "Spiders are our friend". She has never convinced me.

Louise Bourgeois is the artist who created them. I never knew the artist name or related it to any art work. Now I know who she was. She came from a rich Parisian family. She had a horrible relationship with both her father and her mother. She went through years of psychotherapy. Apparently it didn't help! She created art in all mediums from sculpture to painting to textile trying to work out her unresolved issues. She is a perfect example of the tortured artist. Usually they work their issues out privately and create interesting work. Louis lays it all out, how miserable she is at the moment she is creating the art. She is one of those artists who you would never want at your dinner table.  In fact her work is so depressing one wonders why one is looking at it at all, there is absolutely no joy. I still don't like spiders.

The Mori also had a video installation of a ship in Thailand that was adorned with hundreds of beer cans all filled with some sort of fluid they ignited to create a ship of floating flames. The film was mesmerizing with an excellent accompanying soundtrack.

On to Nuno, a textile store we have been to many times. Cathy and Lynn both found interesting items to fill out their wardrobes.

We returned to our hotel, said goodbye to Lynn who hopefully resolved her issues with Zipair and will be allowed on the plane to fly home. From Lynn's descriptions of the customer service of Zipair it appears to validate you get what you pay for.

Cathy went to have her hair done while I went for a Thai Massage fulling my obligation to have a horizontal experience.

We had cocktails at the hotel then on we went to a fabulous dinner at Tenoshima. The restaurant is totally non-pretentious with exceptional sea food. We loved the dining experience. We highly recommend it. We had many unusual dishes among them Fried Tofu with a Blue Crab Sauce, Scott would love it! The chef collects Japanese Pottery and uses them as opposed to just displaying them. He served a Grouper and Matsutake Mushrooms Soup in a tea pot with a small bowl to drink the soup from. You poured the soup into the tiny bowl the size of a sake cup and drank it. There were probably 15 tiny servings. It caused you to slowly savor the rich soup. It was a very creating way to serve soup. All in all a surprisingly wonderfull experience. To top it off they knew of Courtney Kaplan the owner of Tsubaki our favorite neighborhood Japanese restaurant and the new restaurant Camela in DTLA. I hope I don't dream of spiders tonight.
