Avocado Toast with Egg and Nuts |
We decided to spend the day with our friend Lynn who lives in San Francisco. By coincidence she was in Tokyo at the same time we were. She came over to the hotel in the morning and had breakfast at the hotel. Cathy and I both had Avocado Toast with Eggs and Nuts on top. Something we would never normally order but damn it was good, I am going to have it again!
Lynn was a frustrated shopper who didn’t want to return home without purchasing some unique clothing. We took her to Dover Street Market, a store that blew her mind with their outrageous clothing choices. Seven floors of crazy stuff. She eventually found a perfect tee shirt. We went to the roof of the building where there is a beautiful Shinto Shrine atop the retail shrine of dover street market. What a bizarre place for a functioning Shrine. I assume the original was on the ground level at this location and destroyed in WWII.
We then went on our Toilet Hunt. Dear reader, have you seen the Japanese movie “A Perfect Day”? If you haven’t you must. It tells the story of a man of wealth and education who becomes a cleaner of bathrooms in Tokyo. He takes great pride in his work. It is a beautiful written and acted movie. Japan has a thing about cleanliness and toilets. They had an art installation of functional toilets located in various locations called: The Tokyo Toilet. These toilets were used in the movie. For us, the highlight was a series of 4 connected toilet facilities all colorful and unique. The special feature was they were transparent. Who would go into a public toilet that had transparent walls and use the toilet? The answer as demonstrated in the movie, was anyone. The reason was when you enter the toilet and locked the doors the walls were electrically charged and became opaque, and the user had total privacy. We were determined to visit the toilet. We drove out to the park and found the toilets, but they were out of order (rare for Japan – but I am sure they had been overrun by tourists). So, we looked at the non-transparent walls and realized our mission although not totally successful was complete.
Lynn desperately wanted to buy a raincoat that was colorful, functional and unique. We taxied to Norwegian Rain a wonderful boutique. We have several of their products. She found the rain coat of her dreams, she can now go back to San Francisco happy that she found her raincoa.
We returned to our hotel and had drinks on the beautiful rooftop deck, then a delicious dinner in their restaurant. I have previously said how great we feel the hotel is, tonight we can confirm the restaurant is in keeping with the rest of the hotels standards. For some reason I was reluctant to eat at the hotel, but Cathy wisely suggested we should. We had a delicious Tarte d'Alsace followed by a fabulously moist Roast Chicken and French Fries. It was a delicious meal.
Tomorrow more adventures, some of them horizontal.
